How do I become a member?

To become a member of the BURST Research Collaborative all you need to do is email us. We will add you onto our emailing list and contact you with information on how to get involved in ongoing and future research projects.

BURST membership mainly comprises of doctors and urologists in training in the UK, but we also welcome medical students and international members.

We undertake annual recruitment for our BURST committee, which is advertised on our social media platforms and via our emailing list.

It is not essential to have research experience or to be in an academic post to contribute. Our projects represent an ideal opportunity for those new to research who wish to learn the basic principles.

What are the advantages of collaborative research?

Producing high impact research as a single individual at a single institution in a short time span can be challenging. In the conception, design and execution of a study there are many tasks and the workload can be shared amongst members of a group.

A research collaborative allows the exchange of ideas and skills between different members allowing higher quality research to be produced and allows the development of research competencies amongst the members of the group.

To produce appropriately powered high impact studies with high numbers of patients in a short time span, a research collaborative if often necessary.

Diversity and equality

Diversity and equality are extremely important to the BURST committee; we are proud to represent this in our committee. We will continue to support this and encourage people from diverse backgrounds to apply for a committee positions and during recruitment rounds.

BURST carries out anonymised internal audits of the diversity of our committee and we strive to continue to maintain a diverse group.
